Javon Foster's scouting report
Position: Offensive Tackle
College: Missouri
Height: 6-foot-5 Weight: 313 lbs.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have had their most eventful offseason in quite some time between the signings of Josh Allen and quarterback Trevor Lawrence. They also made a splash signing in free agency with the additions of linemen Arik Armstead and Mitch Morse.
When looking at the two latter names, the Jags needed some help in the trenches. However, their journey to improve there didn't stop during free agency as the team drafted several linemen. Among them was offensive tackle Javon Foster, who the Jags drafted in the fourth round with the No. 114 overall pick.
Foster spent five seasons at the University of Missouri. He appeared in 49 games and registered 41 starts with the Tigers. As a senior, he was named a first-teamer for the All-SEC team and was a third-team All-American. As a result of a standout senior season, he also received an invite to the Reeses Senior Bowl, where he caught the eyes of many scouts.
How does Foster's addition impact the Jags?
The addition of Foster gives the Jags a developmental offensive tackle as both starting left tackle Cam Robinson and swing tackle Walker Little are set to be free agents next offseason. However, entering his rookie season behind both on the depth chart means his chances to see the field will be low outside of special teams reps.
When discussing Foster's selection, Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke said the organization views the 2023 All-SEC lineman as a swing tackle like Little. That means both have a chance to be the Jags' future starting right tackle or left tackle alongside Anton Harrison if Robinson isn't retained after 2024. Of course, Little would have to be re-signed to earn that opportunity, but if the Jags want to save money, Foster is a cheaper option. For now, though, fans should view Foster as a developmental depth piece that could be a starter after his rookie season.
