The Jacksonville Jaguars' front office was pretty busy this weekend, starting with the decisions to re-sign quarterback C.J. Beathard and clear out some cap space by restructuring the contract of linebacker Foye Oluokun. However, they didn't stop there and made a few more moves on Saturday by extending the contract of defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris and running back JaMycal Hasty.
Robertson-Harris, 29, signed a three-year extension worth $30 million, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. The veteran defensive lineman was on the last year of the deal he signed with the Jags in 2021 and was set to count for a $10 million figure against the salary cap. However, with the Jags needing to get under the salary cap, they decided to push some of his money into the future.
Robertson-Harris was viewed as a potential cap casualty for the Jags due to them entering the offseason over the cap by $22.7 million. However, his under-the-radar play on the field put the Jags in a situation where they wanted to move forward with the veteran -- and the rest is history. During his first two seasons with the Jags , Robertson-Harris has accumulated 82 total tackles, six sacks, and 21 quarterback hits over the span of 30 starts. He's also been a vocal leader in the locker room and has played a big part In reshaping the teams culture.
Hasty, 26, joined the Jags at the beginning of the regular season last year after previously spending two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. He played in all 17 regular games with them and finished it with 46 total carries for 194 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
When the Jags restructure Oluokun's deal, that put them at around $12.4 million over the cap. Though the details haven't been revealed, Robertson-Harris' extension inched the closer to getting under the cap as we inch closer to the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine.
